  • House of Commons Site contains information about the work of the House of Commons and its Committees and its membership, history and powers. All House of Commons publications are available on this site including Hansard, the daily record of parliamentary proceedings, all Bills, and all reports of the Select Committees which scrutinise the work of Government.
  • House of Lords Information on the work of the House and its Committees, it's membership, history, powers and publications. Also on the role of the House of Lords as an appeal court.


  • 10 Downing Street 10 Downing Street website, the official website of the British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Contains the latest news from the UK government, Prime Minister's speeches, press briefings from the Prime Minister's Official Spokesman and the history about Downing Street. Visitors to the website can also register to receive e-mail updates.
  • Government News Network (GNN) UK Government Press Releases from the Government News Network. The GNN is the regional arm of the Government Information and Communication Service (GICS.) and serves all the English Regions, Scotland and Wales. It acts as a regional arm of press offices of Government Departments and supports Government Offices for the Regions in their co-ordination and policy delivery programmes. It advises Government and works on the regional delivery of national campaigns.

  • Department for Education and Skills (DfES) Full information and advice on the whole range of education issues.   • Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) DEFRA policies, legislation, background information and latest news and issues covering animal health and welfare, environmental protection, farming, fisheries, food and drink, horticulture, rural development, water, wildlife and the countryside.
  • Department of Health The latest on the Department's work, as well as health and social care guidance, publications and policy.
  • Department of Health 'Planning for Major Incidents Emergency Planning and Co-ordination unit (EPCU) is responsible for the coordination of contingency planning to maintain the state of readiness of the National Health Service to respond to major incidents. Site includes examples of recent major incidents, advice on role of health authorities, acute hospitals, ambulance service and other agencies and key players, treatment of children in major incidents, planning for incidents involving chemicals and radioactivity.
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) The department responsible for foreign affairs, working through London Headquarters and network of Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates throughout the world. Website includes latest press releases, advice on travel, trade and investment, the EU, foreign country and region profiles, background information on global issues, foreign embassies in the UK etc.
  • Health and Safety Executive (HSE) The UK Health and Safety Commission (HSC) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are responsible for the regulation of almost all the risks to health and safety arising from work activity in Britain. Site includes policies and annual reports, access to free leaflets on whole range of safety issues. employee and employer advice, online 'Report an Incident' etc.
  • Home Office The department responsible for internal affairs in England and Wales. The Home Office deals with law, public order, public safety, immigration, passports, prisons and the police among others. Website has online information regarding community and race, crime and policing, justice and victims, tackling drugs, terrorism, immigration and nationality, passports, research and statistics.

  • The British Towns and Villages Network A geographic directory of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with links to the community web sites at County, Borough, District, Town, Parish and Village level. For ease of use the British Towns and Villages Directory is divided into sections covering Britain (British), England (English), Scotland (Scottish), Wales (Welsh) and Northern Ireland (Irish).
